Thesre are the new rules governing the gameplay of Broken Glass. From this point forward they are effective over all gameplay and must be observed. The old rules are a sticky and are marked "archive" for the fact that they are still legitimate guidelines but they are not the official rules. Please take time to read the new rules and deliver any questions or comments that you have by PM to miyu_sakura or wildroselolita.
General Rules
1. Rockinghorse School has six main cliques: The Kittens, The Gents, The Boffs, The Phantoms, The Dark Phantoms, and The Derelicts. A new student must join one of these, with no exception. See the "introduction" sticky for more information on the nature of the groups.
2. This is a real school so bad behavior will lead to consequences. If you act up in school you may get caught and face suspension or expulsion. Bad behavior includes swearing, drugs, alcohol, bullying, sex, and etc. Off-campus actions will be governed by the Truancy Officers, who can hold students responsible for their actions in both a school and legal setting. (For instance a student caught shop-lifting by a Truancy Officer can face both suspension and punishment from the law)
3. Broken Glass is a non-magic, non-supernatural, non-mysterious powers game.
4. Any gameplay above PG-13 should be placed in "The Love Nest" forum. PG-13 gameplay includes swearing, violence, and "necking", but not sex.
5. Broken Glass is a character-driven game. NPCs are allowed with special rules, but we want to encourage as much player-on-player interaction as possible.
General Gamplay
1. Threads will now need a date/time mark for continuity. As of this announcement, all events in the game are assumed to have occurred. Any new threads will need a date/time stamp.
Date time stamps should be written as follows:
Weekday, Month, Date, Year, Time
The master date from which the stamps will begin is Saturday, September 30, 2006, 12:00 AM.
2. Only teachers may start official class threads. A student may start a thread within a classroom if they are doing something out of class in that room.
3. Out-of-character remarks should be placed in double paranthesis like so: (( )) Try to keep it to a minimum.
4. Please let mods/admins know when a thread needs to be locked by PM.
Rules for "Beyond The Glass" Off-Campus Play
To insure that gameplay will remain high-quality and fun, there will be some specific rules governing these forums. The rules also govern the school in general, but they are designed especially to make the gameplay in this forum smooth. Please see this thread for an explanation of each off-campus forum.
1. Threads in off-campus forums can involve no more than two major NPCs.
Example of a minor NPC: A waiter who serves a player in "At The Hop"
Example of a major NPC: A relative who takes a player out for lunch in "At The Hop" and has a conversation with them.
The exception to this is "It's Party Time!", but we want the majority of the NPCs in parties/large gatherings to be VERY passive and VERY minor.
2. Threads in off-campus forums must involve at least two players.
You can start a thread in "Mega Mall" but you can't "storytell" your way around the mall. There has to be another player who comes in and interacts with you.
3. NPCs cannot become active players.
An NPC must be passive unless all players in a scene agree to the NPC taking an action.
Ex 1: Jack's bodyguard lifted Jim up and flung him out of the window.
Unless Jim and Jack's players have agreed to this, this cannot happen.
Ex 2: Hidden in the shadows, Jim's robot maid listened to Jack's secret confession to Mary. She scurried off to go alert Jim to Jack's dark past.
You cannot have "ninja" NPCs that act as spies and gather information convienently.
Ex 3: Mary's mother stood up and explained why Mary had become so dangerously obsessed with peanut butter.
NPCs can't reveal major plot lines or make dramatic changes in gameplay.
NPCs are great to add spice to gameplay, but ultimately they can become hinderances and "storytellers". Each NPC situation will be monitored carefully and final judgement rests in the hands of moderators and admins.
Roleplay Etiquette
You cannot "puppet" other characters without their permission. In other words you cannot make them move around, take action, speak, or act in any way unless their player consents.
Ex. Mary smiled at Jim. Jim grinned back.
Unless Jim's player allowed Mary's player to write that, Mary's player must allow Jim to react as he wishes.
You cannot "metagame". This is when a player controls all the actions in a situation or knows information that they couldn't be privy to.
Ex. 1: Jim punched Jack. Jack flew back into the desk. Jack began to cry.
Unless Jim and Jack's players have worked this out, this is impossible.
Ex. 2: ((Jim's player has read a thread where Jack confesses that he likes Mary, but Jim himself was not in the thread)).
"I know you like Mary!" Jim said with a smirk.
You cannot "storytell".
Ex. 1: Jim went to the store and met Mr. Bobby. Mr. Bobby happened to know all about Jim. They spent the next 100 posts talking about how awesome Jim was even though Mr. Bobby has nothing to do with Rocking Horse.
Overall the idea for Broken Glass is just to use common sense and courtesy. Everyone has been super-awesome so far so we shouldn't have any problems. Just be careful, follow the rules, and don't be afraid to ask mods/admins for help when you need it.
